Al Jazeera: Controversial desert water park (30 Nov 2010)

The international Arab broadcaster Al Jazeera reports that ‘[w]orld leaders at UN talks in Mexico are struggling to reach an agreement on climate change that is aimed at finding ways to help reduce the world’s carbon emissions. European Union officials at the Mexican resort of Cancun said that they have earmarked almost $3bn to fight global warming this year. Dan Nolan reports from Ras al-Khai-mah in the United Arab Emirates, where climate change has been spun into a fun way to make money’.

It seems that some people really have no clue, and for once, these people turn out not to be American . . .  Here is historian Naomi Oreskes who describes her investigation into the reasons for the widespread mistrust and misunderstanding of the scientific consensus on global warming or climate change in the United States. She also probes the history of organized campaigns designed to create public doubt and confusion about science (20 December 2007).
