As reported by the Telegraph, ‘Monty Python will be reuniting for a one-off show in June 2014 at London’s O2 Arena, which will include updated versions of their original material. The five surviving Pythons, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle took part in a press conference at the Playhouse Theatre in the West End. Actor Warwick Davis introduced them and announced the details for the stage show before the Pythons took questions from the audience. They revealed that the show would include a mixture of old, known Python content as well as material that has never before been performed in public. Cleese explained that there will be new material but also performances of “the old hits in an unpredictable way”. Palin and Cleese revealed that they had recently read some of the script for the show and that “it suddenly feels funny again”. Idle told Telegraph reporter Hannah Furness that they would be updating the older material for a modern audience, however. “We have Arlene Phillips and singers and dancers,” he said, “we’ll try and make it as exciting as funny as possible.” Asked if they were reuniting for financial reasons, Idle joked: “We’re all trying to pay for Terry Jones’s mortgage.” He added that the show would be filmed for a DVD which they “would try and flog later”. Cleese added, more seriously, that the Pythons make each other laugh and always have. Tickets will be priced between £27.50 and £95, or, as Idle joked, “£300 cheaper than the Rolling Stones” and will go on sale on Monday November 25 at 10am’.
