‘The insurgent, jihadist group has made headlines all around the world for their grip on parts of Iraq and northern Syria, but the western world knows very little about the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham or ad-Dawla al-Islāmiyya fi al-‘Irāq wa-sh-Shām (or the Arabic acronym Dā’ish). The YouTube-based citizen journalism collective Truthloader has been looking at the origins of one of the most infamous groups in the Middle East (11 Jan 2014)’.

In November 2013, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) declared that “ISIS is the strongest group in Northern Syria −100%- and anyone who tells you anything else is lying”.[1]
