In the now ‘new opposition newspaper’ Today’s Zaman, one can read that “Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Bülent Tezcan on Sunday [, 12 October 2014] responded to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, who challenged the opposition demanding evidence for the claim that the government aided the terrorist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), by showing a prosecutor’s documents concerning weapons loaded in National Intelligence Organization (MİT) trucks that were intercepted by the gendarmerie in Adana in January [2014]. Prime Minister Davutoğlu recently said: ‘I am addressing those who claim that Turkey has aided ISIL; come out with the documents [proving the allegation], if you have any. If you don’t have [evidence], don’t betray this country’. In response to Davutoğlu, Tezcan held a press conference in the CHP Aydın office on Sunday [, 12 October 2014]. The documents state that the MİT trucks that were stopped by gendarmerie forces whilst en route to Syria on Jan. 19 were loaded with weapons. Tezcan said, ‘The treason committed by this government has been documented’. The existence of such documents was previously reported by the Turkish media, but the claims were denied by the government. Tezcan suggested that the media ban on these documents should be lifted, so that the details of the documents can be freely announced to public. The CHP deputy said that the chief public prosecutor in Adana had submitted these documents to the Chief of General Staff Prosecutor’s Office in order to be granted a search warrant for the MİT trucks on suspicion of ‘transporting weapons to a terrorist organization’. Tezcan said that the interior minister, the minister of justice and the prime minister at the time all tried to prevent the search of the MİT trucks. ‘The government says these trucks belong to MİT. Well, why don’t you allow them to be searched? Because there are weapons in them. What is inside these trucks is written in these documents. Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ called the prosecutor to stop the trucks being searched’, Tezcan said. Claiming that Turkey aided al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organizations via MİT, Tezcan said that his party will publicize new documents. The CHP deputy accused the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government of making Turkey a contributor to the terrorist groups in the Middle East. According to Tezcan, the government is now accusing the CHP of treason because of its own guilty conscience. ‘The government will answer its baseless accusation before independent national and international judiciaries’, Tezcan added”.[1] The documents in question are the official reports documenting the contents of the stopped trucks.
