Al-Monitor’s Israel Pulse columnist Akiva Eldar declares that an “investigative report of [compiled by Channel 10 News analyst Raviv Drucker and] based on documents that allegedly proved Netanyahu and his family members enjoyed travel, expensive hotel stays and prestigious dining at the expense of foreign businessmen during the period he served as finance minister (2003-2005). In September [2014], Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein announced that he was shutting down the investigation after no evidence was found of criminal wrongdoing. At the same time, it seems that an annual report compiled by State Comptroller Joseph Shapira concerning the expenditure of the prime minister’s residence has been gathering dust on the desk of the comptroller since August 2014. A source familiar with the case told Al-Monitor this week that such inquiries could be completed at most within three months. At the end of the week, after a series of critical articles about the delay in publication of the report, the comptroller denied that he had promised Netanyahu’s attorneys to postpone publication until the election was over”.[1]

Whereas, the billionaire casino mogul and conservative donor Sheldon Adelson’s “free daily tabloid called Israel Hayom (Israel Today) [, which was] started . . . in 2007 and [has today] the largest circulation in the country”, supporting and propagating Bibi’s cause. And, as indicated on the Real News, “Adelson is an avid supporter and long-time friend of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu”, aka Bibi.[2]  The Washington Post‘s Jerusalem correspondent Ruth Eglash insightfully adds that “Adelson has [always] played a big role in GOP politics and is vocal about his support for Israel. In 2012, he spent millions backing the presidential candidacy of Mitt Romney, not only in a bid to beat President Obama but also to ensure strengthened support for Israel in domestic U.S. politics. And, more recently, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) apologized to Adelson after referring to the West Bank as ‘occupied territories’ in a speech at the spring leadership meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition, an event Adelson hosted at his Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas”.[3]
